Music at All Saints’

All Saints’ Church glorifies God with voices of all ages, with organ, piano, and, from time to time, other instruments and dance. The congregation and choirs have rich opportunities to lend their voices to the singing of hymns, psalms, anthems, and other responses in worship. The music program is directed by Tom Colao, Director of Music and Organist.
The Choir
The All Saints’ Choir sings at 10:00 AM Sunday services and rehearses Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30, September through May. Membership is open to all who can attend rehearsals regularly augmented by eight paid section leaders. The choir sings classical sacred music from all periods.
The choir also sings for special services throughout the year, including Evensong a few times a year, an Advent Service of Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, and services during Holy Week. The choir is often joined by instrumentalists on these occasions.
The All Saints’ Choir follows the Royal School of Church Music’s Voice for Life curriculum which teaches vocal technique, music reading skills, music theory, an understanding and appreciation of liturgy, and responsibility to the group and to the church. Older members of the choir serve as role models to younger members, and all progress through the RSCM ranks that acknowledge mastery of certain skills. (For more about RSCM and Voice for Life, see the RSCM website).
Evensong
Please join us for Choral Evensong, an exquisite form of sung liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer, which has been offered at the close of each day throughout the worldwide Anglican Communion for hundreds of years. Far from being a choral ‘performance’, we offer this sung service as an opportunity for meditation and spiritual enrichment for our parish community, and the community at large.

At our Evensong services this year we will offer music by Howells, Byrd, Tallis, Elgar, and a host of other composers, both ancient and modern. Don’t miss these opportunities to worship with the Choir in our offering of beauty in liturgy!
